Description | North Reading Middle School is seeking an Academic Coordinator, Long-Term Substitute for their Bridge Program for the full 2024-2025 school year. The North Reading Middle School Bridge program provides clinical support, academic coordination, family support, and care coordination services to North Reading Middle School students who are transitioning back to a full schedule after missing extensive amounts of learning due to significant mental health, medical, and/or life transition challenges. Bridge is a short-term, intensive (Tier 3) program open to students with and without disabilities. Its supports are customized to each student’s needs, culturally competent, clinically informed, and flexible. Program staff strive to coordinate resources within North Reading Middle School and the wider community, and partner effectively with families, to help each participating student make the most efficient transition possible and finish the school year on track for the transition to High School.
North Reading Public School Educators first contractual day is September 3, 2024. New educators are required to attend the two day new staff orientation on dates still to be determined. In addition to competitive salary and benefits, we are offering up to $500 per candidate available for: tuition reimbursement, relocation support, and/or signing bonus.
Essential duties
- Consult with Bridge Clinical Coordinator, guidance, and administration in the decision making process for referrals to the Bridge Program
- Collaborate with Bridge Clinical Coordinator, family, and student to develop a re-entry plan for incoming Bridge students
- Develop and implement the academic component of the overall case management plan for each student
- Collaboratively develop and maintain a work tracking and academic data management system with students, parents/guardians, and team of teachers
- Complete and review weekly goals and reflection forms with each student with the objective of guiding student self-monitoring progress
- Provide direct academic support along with communication with a student’s teachers to modify assignments, as needed, for the student to demonstrate sufficient mastery of grade curriculum
- Proactively and consistently consult/communicate with educator colleagues and school administrators regarding the academic program, requirements, progress, and status of each student in Bridge
- Provide consistent communication with families to keep them apprised of student progress and gather feedback and information to support student learning and well-being
- Create a classroom environment that is conducive to learning and appropriate to the maturity and interests of students
- Guide the learning process toward the achievement of curriculum goals and in harmony with the goals established clear objectives
- Employ instructional methods and materials that are most appropriate for meeting stated objectives, including leading small-group and 1:1 tutoring sessions with Bridge students
- Coordinate and participate in bimonthly progress meetings with Bridge Clinical Coordinator, family, guidance, and/or administration
- Consult with Bridge Clinical Coordinator, guidance, and/or administration regarding exit plan
- Participate in monthly meetings with guidance and/or administration to review attendance data
- Participate in ongoing professional development in the areas of absenteeism and school avoidance in order to remain updated on related research and best practices
- Other duties as assigned by the building Principal or their Designee
Requirements
- Bachelor's Degree in a related field
- Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education teaching license in Moderate and/or Severe Disabilities, grades PreK-8 or All Levels; OR Professional Support Personnel, School Social Worker/School Adjustment Counselor, All Levels
- Strong interpersonal skills
- Collaborative working demeanor
- Excellent oral and written communication skills
- At least 3 years of relevant experience preferred
- Citizenship, residency, or work visa required
